| What to do around Lake Tekapo Lake Tekapo is situated halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown, (3 hours drive either way, 250kms) and only 75 minutes from Mt Cook (100 kms). Lake Tekapo, with brilliant turquoise blue waters, is the jewel in the crown of the Mackenzie Region. The Lake is fed by the Godley Glaciers, the rockdust (or sediment) is held in suspension giving it a cloudy appearance. The population of Tekapo is approximately 300 and the township faces north across the lake to the mountain ranges of the Southern Alps. Attractions
